Bedrooms & Bedding

Mattresses are from Hypnos (Made in England), renowned for their comfort and quality, with generous layers of cotton and a single layer of 100% pure British wool. Pillows are duck feather down, but anti-allergy pillows are available if required. Linen is 100% cotton, with 300 TC sheets and pillowcases. The summer duvets are light, but we also have medium-weight winter ones if needed.

Air-conditioning

The double bedrooms have air conditioning, and there’s a portable air-conditioning unit for the single study bedroom.

Laundry

The laundry facilities are located in a separate building next to the lower parking area. There’s a washing machine, a separate dryer, an iron and an ironing board. There’s also a drying line near the pool. The laundry also has an additional fridge and freezer for storing bulky items, and is used by the owner as a workshop and store. Please respect their belongings.

Smoking policy

Please do not smoke inside the house. There are lots of outdoor spaces where you can enjoy smoking whilst drinking a coffee.

Kitchen

The kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob and electric oven, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine and small domestic appliances by SMEG, as well as a blender, hand mixer and small food processor.

Coffee Makers

Capsule coffee maker - If you are making just one cup of coffee you can use the Nespresso coffee machine. If you want a cappuccino, there’s an excellent milk frother with different settings for your milk.

Moka pots - If you are a traditionalist, there are two Moka pots: 1-2 cups & 6-8 cups.

Fire places

Make sure the chimney vent is in the open position before lighting a fire; in the summer, it is closed to prevent birds and insects from getting inside.

Jogging or Walking

It is perfectly safe to walk or jog early in the morning or late at night. There are many good walks around the villa, including down the hill to the local mini-market (2.5 km). Opposite the gate, there’s a path to Cortona, which takes you to the Tennis Club and Public Swimming Pool. It takes about 30-40 minutes to walk to Cortona.

Garden & Animals

Please be aware that, as you are in a woodland area, there are animals living around you. The most common animals are:

  • Wild boar (cinghiale)

  • Porcupine

  • Red squirrel

  • Grass snakes (common but harmless)

  • Vipers (rare but venomous)

  • Field mice

  • Gekos

  • Lizards (all around the villa)

It is not unusual to see wild boar on the road from Saint Angelo or perhaps in the lower field below the villa. You may also hear them in the upper field. There’s an inner fenced area around the villa that prevents them from entering.

Arriving

It is essential to have a car to access this location, and it is advised to have a high wheelbase vehicle if renting. Smaller cars and small SUV’s are preferable to large saloons. Train stations are nearby, within a 10-15 minute drive at Terrontola and Camucia, but you will still require a car to get to them.

You will be met at the bottom of the hill at St. Angelo by the House Manager (Marialena) and taken up to the villa, which is about 2km further. The villa is accessed via a single-track paved road for 1.6 km, with the last few hundred metres via an unpaved ‘white’ road.

Parts of the road are narrow and steep, but there are passing points, and only a handful of houses (2-3) use the last part of the road.

Check-in is from 4.00 pm on the day of arrival, and you will be shown around the property. Marialena can be contacted for emergencies or in case any essential services are not working during your stay.

Pool

The pool is not heated but receives the sun all day and will be open from mid-May until mid-September. The temperature in June, July and August can reach 28-30 degrees centigrade (82-86 F). May, early June and early September will can reach 26-28 degrees centigrade  (79-82 F), depending on weather.

The water contains chlorine and those who's skin is sensitive, should take precautions.

There’s a cold water shower next to the pool and it is recommended to use it immediately after swimming to remove traces of chlorine, which may irritate the skin.

Wear goggles if swimming for prolonged periods.
